Princess Wencheng and Tibet

Princess Wencheng and Tibet
Princess Wencheng lived in Tang dynasty under the rule of Tang Taizong, a very powerful emperor. She volunteered to marry Songtsän Gampo (605?–650 CE) the thirty-third king of the Yarlung Dynasty of Tibet, in a marriage of state as part of a peace treaty along with large quantities of gold. At that time, the traffic was very inconvenient. Marry such far far away place means never returning home. I don’t know what supported her to finish this challenging mission. But she sucdeeded, and played a great role in culture conversation and peace between two nationalities. She brought advance culture and producing techniques into Tibet, made a great contribution to two nationalities culture conversation and changed Tibet a lot. She was considered aculture hero for Tibetans.

Songtsän Gampo built potala palace for Wencheng. Nowadays in the palace, we still can see the figures of Wencheng, Songtsän Gampo and his Nepalese wife.
We don’t know what’s her life like in Tibet, but we could imagine that she must do it not only because of the politic marriage, there must be a mission supporting her to stay there.
